I’m not sure if Medincle Spellchecker is installed. How can I check?

After successfully installing and activating Medincle with your license key, simply type the words below into your word processor:
These words should no longer be underlined red -

These words should still be underlined red, as they are genuine errors -

Dragon isn’t working after installing Medincle!

Accepted Answer

As the Medincle vocabulary is so large, it takes a while for Dragon to run the first time after you have installed Medincle Plus or Medincle AT Complete. Depending on how fast your computer is, this can sometimes take over 30 minutes, and during this time you won’t be able to interact with Dragon. Don’t worry though, just let Dragon and Medincle chat to one another for a bit and soon you’ll be dictating medical lingo!

How do I deactivate my word processors’s auto-correction?

Accepted Answer

If you are a student, you may find it beneficial for your learning to deactivate the autocorrect feature in your word processor. If you are working in a clinical environment, we would always recommend you do this so that you can be sure you are using the word you had intended to. If you’d like to do this, simply follow the instructions below.
 
Microsoft Office on Windows:

•    In Word, click on the top-left hand 'Office' button, then 'Word Options' in the bottom of the panel
•    Click 'Proofing' on the left hand side, and then 'AutoCorrect Options'
•    At the bottom of the window you will see a tick-box next to 'Automatically use suggestions from the spelling checker' - simply deselect this tick-box

Microsoft Office on Mac:

•    In Word, click on 'Word' at the top, and then 'Preferences'
•    Select 'AutoCorrect', and at the bottom of the window you will see a tick-box next to 'Automatically use suggestions from the spelling checker' - simply deselect this tick-box
 
iWork Pages on Mac:
 
•    In Pages, click on 'Pages' at the top, and then 'Preferences'
•    Select 'Auto-Correction', and beside 'Spelling', un-tick the box for 'Correct spelling automatically.'

Question 6

I thought this was a British spellchecker, why am I given options like hepatized and sulfonamides?"

At Medincle we are passionate about accurate spelling. As it turns out, there is some disconnect between the spelling used by most people in the UK and what is considered by some as more 'technically' correct British spelling. Oxford spelling is used as the standard for many organisations (or is that organizations?) in the UK, including the London-based journal Nature. It strives to be 'etymology conscious' and uses 'z' rather than 's' in most words ending with 'ize'. In a similar manner, the Royal Society of Chemistry has officially decided to use the 'sulf' rather than 'sulph' form of sulfur. You'll notice when using our spellchecker that we've kept both options where appropriate to let you choose the one that you prefer.
